Praise for Cynthia
My husband and I were going to get a divorce; there was NO trust or respect in our relationship anymore. We were living like 2 roommates that hated each other. Cynthia taught us how to talk to each other again. At first we hesitated in doing our homework assignments, and then later we started looking forward to them. We learned how to love and respect each other
We could not understand what was wrong with our daughter, she kept having stomachaches and headaches, but her doctor could not find anything wrong with her, finally he suggested that we take her to a therapist. The school recommended Ms. Cynthia to us. Our daughter, who is normally shy, warmed up to her right away. Ms. Cynthia gave us exercises to help our daughter with so that she would not feel anxious anymore. We saw great results! The headaches and the stomachaches stopped and she no longer cries when it is time to go to school.
I did not want to go to therapy after my partner cheated on me. I honestly did not think anything could help us at that point. It wasn’t easy, there were a few times when I left therapy and felt like I did not want to continue, but I stuck with it and I am happy that I did. I learned how to take responsibility for my own actions in the relationship and I learned how to work on forgiveness, thanks Cynthia.
My anger got me in a lot of trouble. I only started therapy because I was strongly encouraged to do it. Cynthia taught me that my body has physical reactions to people and things that happen. I was so quick to blame whoever or whatever pissed me off but never looked at my responsibility in the way I acted. I get it now and I have learned how to control my body reactions to things that irritate me
Cynthia is a very intuitive counselor; her guidance has helped me step into the life that I deserve. I am so thankful to have her as my therapist.
I felt defeated when I first started my therapy. Cynthia saw something in me that I did not see. She helped me break out of my shell and to appreciate my positive qualities. Thank you, thank you!

I want to take the time to talk about my professional mentor; Ruth Gillis. I started working right out of college for a non-profit agency. In this agency i worked with many therapists and psychiatrists. At that point in my career I was exploring counseling as a possible career path. I was unsure of my ability and desire to work with people on such an intimate level. I was unsure if therapists could really help people make positive changes in their lives. I started off as a case manager who assisted the therapist’s (Ms. Gilli’s being one of the therapists) with community resources for their clients. I am so grateful to have had the honor to work alongside Ms. Gillis. Ms. Gillis selflessly took on the role as my mentor. She took the time to teach me different approaches to clients, she made sure to check in on my feelings such transference and counter transference, and she always made sure to take in cultural considerations of the client’s. She challenged my thinking which made me grow as a person and a professional. She encouraged and guided my ability as young professional. The most important thing Ms. Gillis did for me was inspire me to become a MSW. She didn’t just stop there. Once I completed my graduate program Ms. Gillis provided me with Supervision. She continues to teach me, inspire me, and motivate me to a great clinician. Ms. Gillis has a natural tendency to mentor and help new professionals. I am certain Ms. Gillis continues to guide young professionals as it is in her nature to help others.Diana Almaraz

Ruth Gillis has been fantastic as a specialist in therapy and EMDR. She has helped me overcome my past experiences of deep rooted trauma, and I will be returning to her in the near future for more work. She is patient, empathetic, knowledgeable, experienced and uses contemporary techniques that help ensure renewed thought processing from negative to positive, depression to happiness and provides a safe environment for her patients to feel comfortable and honest to share the private issues that may have created substantial problems in their lives. Thanks Ruth!

I know this is not a normal 2-way conversation, but I like how you make it feel like a comfortable conversation where I am free to share my thoughts without feeling judged.
I like coming here, it helps to have a place where I can look at myself.
I never knew that I didn’t have to believe my thoughts. I can see now that I can choose how I want to respond.
